Ann M. Sousa, D.O.

Founder of SUNSHINE Direct patient care

Dr. Ann M. Sousa is an Osteopathic Physician who specializes in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, with a focus on Osteopathy in the Cranial Field and emphasis on biomechanics of the body and its biointensegrity patterns.  In addition, Dr. Sousa has a special training in Clinical Homeopathy.

Dr. Sousa has been in practice in Connecticut since 2003 and moved to Glastonbury in 2008.  She welcomes you to her Integrative Osteopathic practice.

In the past, Dr. Sousa has taught many medical students Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine as a Clerkship Director and as a clinical assistant professor at the University of New England’s clinical core site at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, CT.  Always emphasizing the importance of the integrating Osteopathic Manipulation into their future practices as well as seeing the patient as a whole person—body, mind, and spirit, not just the present physical manifestation.

Dr. Sousa and her husband share their somewhat chaotic home with their two children, and are grateful to have found a place where all of them can pursue their interests and dreams. After 19 years, we are still in love with the natural beauty of the Nutmeg state and the Connecticut River. When she is not glued to her computer typing her notes and researching topics, she spends time watching sunrises, meditating, walking her dog, exercising, or running around as her children’s personal ‘uber’ driver.

Further along in her training, Dr. Ann Sousa attested with the founder of Osteopathy, A. T. Still’s vision that had transformed him and led him to state that “I saw a small light in the horizon of truth.” Thus revealed to A. T. Still is the whole of what will later be termed Osteopathy.

This inspired Dr. Sousa to name her Integrative Osteopathic model of direct patient care: SUNSHINE.

Once Dr. Sousa was exposed to a preventative and restorative model of medicine, immediately knew this was the path she wanted to take to help patients and signed up to a lifelong learning commitment.
